La Poupee Quit Fait Non

The Damned - New Rose

BURN OUT BURN OUT BURN OUT

Tonight's theme: The 45

I'll be bringing six boxes of 45s with me tonight. No genre-bound sets; so, you never know what you'll hear. I am improvising from my 45 collection. I'll attempt to keep an accurate play-list and share it here tomorrow.

Next theme: Covers

See you soon.

Legion of Rock Stars

via Can't Stop the Bleeding and WFMU's Beware of the Blog:
Legion of Rock Stars (LRS) pioneered Pure Pleasure, in which the band listens to original recordings of classic rock and pop songs on 30db noise-blocking headsets, and then plays along.

Freed from the shackles of practicing, LRS focuses instead on bringing the excitement of a large stadium rock show to the intimate arenas in which it performs.

The Conet Project

I used to spend hours listening to strange repeaters and numbers stations on an old shortwave radio.

The Conet Project is an archive of trnasmissions gleaned from Shortwave Number Stations.

Let that radio geek in you out now. Perfect for mixing and sampling.

(You can download the entire archive here.)

Teddy Bears' Picnic

Tony Mason-Cox (outsider) says:
I believe that you should be yourself. That you should sing the songs that make you happy or sad as the case maybe, there are plenty of songs that make me cry, I can tell you. I've always loved those songs and each of the songs that I've written, although there are different types of song, have come from that love of music. Real singing music I should say not that opera stuff, although I do like some of those operatic arias. I do prefer simpler songs with melodies and good words. But as Enrico Caruso said, after he had become a great singer, you have to have a big mouth, a big chest, a lot of hard work, and something in the heart.

Here is his version of "Teddy Bears' Picnic". Thanks, IMEEM.
